Hyderabad: The 10-day long Ganesh Chaturthi festivities began on Monday with the people in both the Telugu States celebrating the festival with pomp and gaiety. People thronged to Ganesh temples and performed special prayers to the Lord.
In Hyderabad, Ganesh temples witnessed heavy rush of people right from the early hours of Monday. There is overwhelming response from the people on eco-friendly Ganeshas residing in housing communities in the city. The Pollution Control Board on Sunday distributed 1,500 clay idols with a view to bringing about awareness among the people.
Increase in takers for green Ganesha
There is increase takers for clay Ganeshas this year following campaigns taken up by several NGOs and the police department to promoting clay idols to protect environment. Since there is huge demand for clay idols, the traders have increased the prices.
This time the famous Khairtabad Ganesh will recieve prayers as Sri Sakthipeeta Sivanagendra Maha Ganapathi. The Ganesh Utsav Committee and the police department made elaborate security arrangements keeping the pilgrims rush in mind.
