It is known news that, after Pawan went on Twitter rant with a series of allegations and called for complete ban of few of the Telugu channels like TV9, TV5 and ABN.
Below is the list of TRP ratings of the channels for last couple of weeks, including latest week. To understand, what this TRP is all about, refer previous article – (https://www.telugu360.com/demystifying-trp-is-tv9-viewership-dipping-down/)
[table id=633 /]
Takeaways from above data:
Before Pawan started war with media (Apr 7 -13 week), TV9 has around 65 TRP rating. Later it came down to 60, 51, 45 (not shown in table above for Apr28-May 4th). Later, Karnataka elections held on 12th May and results announced on 15th May. This entire week, news channels gained because of dramatic twists and turns during the elections results, supreme court rulings, governor decisions, Yedyurappa oath taking despite no majority, BJP’s failed attempts to buy some MLAs, finally Congress-JDS forming the government. Entire week starting from May 12th till May 18th was full of news and obviously all news channels gained TRPs. In fact TV9 got more ratings this week than earlier Apr-7th to 13th week. So, finally during this election results week, channels got breathe as they not only regained earlier TRPs, but slightly surpassed those TRPs.
While coming to Pawan Kalyan’s impact (or lack of impact), we had seen last week during his Srikakulam tour, that all channels, including those on which he made scathing comments, are covering his tour and giving live coverage. As Pawan Kalyan still getting the coverage from those channels too, it seems his attack did not make him lose coverage from the channels. So obviously channels could not ban Pawan. But it needs to be understood that Pawan fans also could not stop channels getting their TRPs. All that channels need, is some breaking news to get back their TRPs. So, neither channels could ban Pawan, nor Pawan fans could not stop TRPs – but the relief that Telugu audience got out of this fiasco is channels stopped those meaningless, disgusting, vulgar and agenda based debates, at least for last one month.
