The TSR-TV9 film awards for 2015 and 2016 that were announced by politician-cum-film patron T. Subbarami Reddy have made people wonder will there be any bigger farce than the Awards functions in Tollywood?
Reddy made sure to do justice to all the big families of Tollywood. From seniors – Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Balakrishna to youngsters – Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Naga Chaitanya etc. were all have been announced as winners. How can so many actors be winners? Its pretty simple, just create as many categories as you want. for ex: Best Hero, Best Actor, Best Actor (Critics), Best Popular Hero.. and the list goes on.
The absurdity doesn’t end here. All the current crop of young hotties have been given away awards to lure them to attend the event. Don’t we need the presence of Bollywood and senior actors too? Easy, lets create imbecile categories such as Millennium Star, Sensational Star, Five Decades Star, Four Decades Star, Lifetime Achievement Award etc.
This is not just the case with TSR-TV9 awards but with every other award function. They have a reason to do it. The organizers know that no star or even upcoming actors wouldn’t attend the function unless they give an award to them. No one really takes these shows seriously. Actors and technicians used to show interest a few years ago but they are not excited anymore as several organisations have started giving awards just for private gains.
Award functions have also become nothing but money making events. TV channels grab these shows for huge amounts to get TRP ratings because of the presence of stars. The organizers also maintain good contacts with the industry in order to rope in a few big actors for the function.
The awards are usually decided at the last minute, after consolidating who attended the event. Most of the times, sponsors also put pressure on organizers to give awards to noted actors or actresses. If a big actor or actress is attending a particular award function, it means that he or she is winning an award. Some actors even perform on the stage to win awards.
If the private awards have become worthless because of the monetary gains involved, even the Government sponsored awards are losing their shine because of political interference.
