Sensational director Ram Gopal Varma’s latest film `Vangaveeti’, released yesterday has received severe criticism and opposition from the followers of Vangaveeti family. Making protests at thaters in Vijayawada, Eluru and other places, they accused that the story is nothing to do with real `history’. Objecting to the title itself, demanded to ban the film.
Former MLA Vangaveeti Radha, son of slain MLA Vangaveeti Ranga has demanded to stop screening of the film. In a complaint lodged with DGP N Sambasiva Rao, he accused that the film was far from facts and ideals for which his father had worked till his last breath.
At the time of film making itself, Ranga’s supporters under the banner of Vangaveeti Radha Mitra Mandali approached the court against the movie. After this, Varma personally met Radha and his mother Ratnakumari, former MLA, besides Ranga’s arch-rival and TDP leader Devineni Rajasekhar (Nehru) in Vijayawada.
After Friday’s morning show, Ranga’s supporters who were hurt shared their ire with the electronic media that Ranga was portrayed as a rowdy in the film and not a single good deed of the Kapu leader was shown. They alleged that the movie was full of violence and Vangaveeti title was used to make money.
It may be mentioned here that Ranga was an MLA when he was brutally murdered by his rivals while fasting for few days when NT Rama Rao was chief minister. His murder created a sensation and led to Kapu unity in entire coastal area. In the subsequent elections, TDP had lost power to Congress, obviously owing to wave of sympathy for Vangaveeti.
