Ahead of the vice-presidential elections on August 5, BJP led NDA picked Union Minister Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu as their candidate. After the BJP Parliamentary board meeting, party president Amit Shah officially announced on Monday. Opposition parties led by UPA picked Gopalkrishna Devdas Gandhi as their candidate last week.
Venkaiah will file nomination at 11 am tomorrow as it is the last date for filing nominations for the vice-presidential election. Venkaiah Naidu will resign tonight to all his posts as Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and informed him about the candidature. Modi asked Chandrababu to take charge as NDA convener for ensuring Venkaiah’s win in the elections. TDP president expressed delight over the selection of Union Minister Venkaiah. He Congratulated Venkaiah over phone.
